Tacos, nachos, soups, and dips, whatever you want. Skip the store-bought package and make your own DIY Taco Seasoning.
Growing up we always used packaged taco seasoning from the grocery, but lately I’ve been making my own. No more worries about having any on hand. Another nice thing about making your own is that it can be customized it to your families taste. I’m not a big fan of cumin so I use a bit less. You can also use the chili powder of your choice, for example use chipotle or ancho or use a combination of peppers.
Most packaged seasonings are filled with preservatives, artificial colors, too much salt, and flour as a thickener which adds gluten, not good for gluten-free diets. It's so much easier to make your own? If you want to add a thickening agent try arrowroot or a gluten-free flour blend.
Another advantages of making your own is the control you will have over the amount of heat and it's so simple to double or triple the recipe if you are cooking for a large crowd.
Store your DIY Taco Seasoning in an airtight container. I like storing mine in glass.

Hi Celeste, homemade is always so much better than shop bought and as you pointed out, you know exactly what goes into it. It's also nice to be able to concoct a mix that suits our personal tastes. xx

You are so right about making one that suits personal taste. I have had some store-brought mixes that were too hot. Takes the fun out of eating.
